Ask The Right Questions

I recently joined a few communities online that aligned with some future goals of mine and the information I’m getting is phenomenal!  I was actually very surprised at how many people responded to my question about business.  I think too often it easy to get inside your head and believe that it is stupid to ask questions or people will not engage the way you want them too.  This is further from the truth and I encourage you to put yourself out there and get answers to those questions of yours.  Now more than ever people want to connect and give value to others.  So I came up with a list of questions I thought might be useful for the beginner business entrepreneur and  I reached out to my community of like-minded people to get their valuable opinions.

I think there are certain questions we need to keep in mind any time we are considering taking on a new challenge or venture.  We have to study everything about it and find out otherwise we are going into it blind and unprepared.  It’s also a good idea to keep in mind that it is easy to become overwhelmed with these early stages and by asking the right questions we are easing the process of each task.

So I went through a list of questions that I thought might be important for starting my new business and I picked the question that I thought might make the most difference in my business.

As a new business, what are some of the problems you encountered starting out?

The response was great and I learned some really valuable things to keep in mind in these early stages.  To give you an overview, here are some of the responses I found most important.

  • Clients.
  • Believe your worth more than you charge.
  • Standing out in the crowd.
  • Learn how to troubleshoot.  Know your product or equipment well.
  • Know your market.
  • Keep a checklist of what important so you are never empty handed.
  • Finding your niche and thriving.
  • Advertise in the right places

For my particular business, I  found the checklist to be very valuable.  You always want to be prepared in any situation.  New ventures mean new and uncharted territory.  This is exciting as well as super scary which tells me I’m doing something right.  By pushing yourself outside your comfort zone you are welcoming a successful life in more ways than just income.

What are some of the problems you have encountered and how have you overcome them?  Please share!

Find The Time For A New Business Adventure

New business adventures are exciting.  The early stages of the idea and the grand plan to put it all together can be the most fun stages of the whole process.  One of the biggest challenges you might face is finding the time to do this.  There are a number of people who might dive in full force.  They quit their jobs and devote every second of the time that they have to their business plan.  Others are not so fortunate and might have to stay employed for another company while they test the waters with their new business idea.

If you are continuing to work your normal job while starting the business, you want to make sure you are dedicating a certain amount of time every day to keep your motivation up.  We go into these ideas with a clear picture of what we want to happen and if we are really in love with the idea we have a great energy force pushing us to continue towards these goals.

Creating a business can be hard considering it’s a very competitive world out there.  You have to give time to your business and yourself in order to see real results.  I have learned this first hand and have seen how easy it is to push it to the side when you are just absolutely exhausted.  Here are a few important ways to make time for your start-up.

  • Get up earlier or stay up later.  I’m a morning person so getting up earlier is what is right for me.  I have a major boost in the morning and feel it is when I am most creative.  For those of you night owls, try and stay up a little later when the house is quiet and you have that time to dedicate to your goals.  I can’t stress this enough, even if you are totally exhausted you want to put in at least an hours effort to building your business.
  • Motivation videos are a major confidence booster.  Okay, so many of you might find this to be corny (did I just use that word?) but seriously, if you don’t have a lot of self-motivation or that special someone that is going to get up and push you every day then a quick motivational video on the way to the store or work isn’t going to kill you.  I like Napoleon Hill who is also the author of “Think and Grow Rich.”  This is also a great read if you have the time.
  • Find ways to cut time in other areas of your life so you can devote more time to your business.  If you work an eight-plus hour a day job and then you have to come home and cook dinner for another hour it is likely you will not have much time to give to your goals.  I have been able to save time by purchasing a pressure cooker.  I spend less time over the stove and more time doing what I really need to do.  This is just one example there are many more ways you can prioritize and save time.

Finding time for your grand idea should always be a high priority.  If you are passionate about what you are trying to achieve then finding time won’t be such a hard task.  Always remember that starting a business takes time.  It doesn’t ever happen overnight and you don’t want it to.  You need time to take the necessary steps to have a successful business. I’m in the process of my next business adventure and I’m really trying to enjoy these early stages.  Be mindful of what you tell yourself and don’t lose that burning desire to complete that goal.  If there is anyone in this world who is going to stop you from doing what you set out to do, it is yourself.  Stay motivated and remember that you are amazing and unique.

Get Creative With Naming Your Website

There are a number of creative ways to come up with a name for your business or website.  A quick google search for new business names and you will find loads of blogs and websites with a pre-made list of fun and relative names for the curious entrepreneur.  Seems a little too easy, doesn’t it? Well, it is pretty easy if that is the direction you’re trying to take.

I’ve had some practice in this particular area and know the struggles of trying to find that perfect name.  This is the name that you want to imagine sticking in the minds of millions of people. So instead of scrolling through the countless list of names that people have selected for you, try coming up with your own.   It takes time and consideration when choosing your name so don’t try to rush this process. The first step in finding your name is knowing what exactly your message is. What is your niche and how will your name tie into that?  Most people get stuck on this part because they haven’t taken the necessary time to sit down and narrow their passions to specifics. Finding your niche is key to creating your name.

The most creative way I have found in making a new name is by using one of the biggest sources of definition.  Often when we are trying too hard to find something, we never accomplish finding what we were really looking for.  To come up with a name for your business you have to put in the work.  Get fun with words.  Go to your search engine and type in a word or words specific to your niche and look them up in the online dictionary.  Look up the words synonym and also words related to that specific word.  Put two words together if you want a two-word name.  I found by using this exact method, you improve your chances of creating a unique name rather than a name that was thought up in the mind of another.  Moreover, you get to experience the gratification of coming up with it on your own.  Your name defines your mission and your mission defines you.

Key Things To Remember:

  • Finding a name takes time, don’t rush the process.
  • Pick a few names that stick out to you and then narrow it down to the one that you can’t stop thinking about.
  • Be creative!  You took the brave step towards a new future and never-ending possibilities.  Have fun with the beginning stages.

Good Luck!
